Volunteering Opportunities

Evidence shows that active parent involvement in schools is a primary factor for success. Volunteering at Jefferson is strongly encouraged in order to enhance academics and to build a strong school community for the betterment of our children and families. A great way to get involved in the school community is to regularly attend and/or help at school events or in your child’s classroom. There are many opportunities to get involved!

Open volunteer positions are listed below. You can also just help out in the classroom (check with your child’s teacher to find out what the needs are) or office, act as a chaperone on field trips, or get involved with the various school committees (Garden, Science, Jefferson Village, Project Color, Green Team, etc.).

To volunteer for a positions or to sign up to help out at an event—or if you are an event coordinator and need help finding volunteers—please contact Stefan Lasiewski <[email protected]> or Ellen Rigsby <[email protected]>.

OPEN VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Silent Auction Co-Chair and Coordinators – Contact Amaka Watson <[email protected]>

The silent auction is one of our largest fundraisers and is held in the Spring. We are looking for an auction co-chair and coordinators/helpers.  There are several jobs that can be stand alone, so you are not coordinating the whole auction on your own.

  1. Food Coordinator – Find vendors, donations for food and drinks.  Up to you how you want to go about feeding the hunger parents.
  2. Solicitations Coordinator – Update the business list with new businesses and delete the old.  Send mailing in December. A great job to do at home.
  3. Auction Database – Collect all the prizes and input them into a database for the auction.  Create bid sheets from this database.
  4. Party Planners – Come up with theme, collect decorations, find venue, create posters, organize volunteers for the day of the event.

Escrip & Business Partnerships Coordinator – Parents can contribute funds to the school simply by making purchases with their Target Red Card, shopping Amazon Smile, collecting box tops, etc. There are many ways to earn money for our school and PTA with these various fundraising programs. With a relatively small effort we could potentially earn a considerable amount of money, however, we need someone to organize and promote these programs, and to research alternatives when the program ends (Safeway / Pak’n$ave escrip ended in 2015, Target’s Red Card is ending in May 2016). This job entails a little research & occasionally assisting with enrolling our school into new programs and publicizing within the school community. Time required: Variable, likely a few hours
