Barbara Wenger (1st Grade)

A Pennsylvania native, Barbara Wenger came to Berkeley in 1992 to earn her Masters of Divinity from the Pacific School of Religion. A fluent Spanish-speaker, Barb was active in human rights work in Central America and Mexico. Before teaching kids, she taught activists engaged in economic justice campaigns and bilingual public hospital staff.

Barb taught fourth grade at Jefferson for 6 years before abandoning her upstairs colleagues to teach 1st grade downstairs. She’s loving 1st grade, especially she loves playing guitar, all the wiggly teeth, and the amazing’ journey kids take to becoming readers.

Barb’s family includes her partner Jenn and their two boys, Elijah and Ben, and a pretty good  dog named Finn. Barb likes to be with her family, make and listen to music, go camping, dream up and attempt home improvement projects, eat good food, and spend a few weeks enjoying the summer heat back on the East Coast.
